Music video production Purpose Promotion and Controversy

Purpose of music video: is revenue generation to make money
What are we promoting the artist or the single
where are they going to promote it
is the video a sellable product
Controversy to sell the product and get it noticed
Controversy is a disagreement in public something that causes a conflict between different people in society.
Promotion= profit
Artist: More fame= more money( sponsorship, sales, record deals)
Record company: higher single or album sales= more money
Controversial videos: Aphex twin- window licker
Madonna- feels like a girl
Erykah badu- window seat
Justice- stress
MIA- born free
Rihanna-S&M
TATU- all the things she said

Analyse one controversial music video
- What is the purpose
- What makes it controversial?
- Why?
- What was the outcome?

The music video i have chosen to analyse is Aphex twin- window licker

- Why was is banned from Tv= i think this music video was banned because of the amount of swearing used in the video also the lack of respect for women.
- What makes it controversial= I think the debate would have been about whether they should keep a video with such bad language on Tv just in case and age viewer watched it. Also The women turn into men which may have caused controversy between public especially those with a religion, because to see all men touching each other may not be acceptable to them and they may think it is very wrong to do that. I think the main controversial points in this music video is that it has a large amount of swear words in it and it gradually becomes very sexual.
- What was the purpose= I don't think this music video had a strong purpose. It did not really have a story line throughout. It was also very strange and not something you would see normally. Due to these factors i think the only reason they made the music video was to get publicity by the amount of views it gets by people searching on youtube.

About Me

Hi My Name Is Vanessa Ohanekwu

I chose to take media studies because i am really interested and fascinated about films, and the different effects that go into them. I would love to learn about CGI and how to use it well to make a film amazing. I also chose this course to learn how to edit because i think that is also a very important quality to have in the world of media.

I have always loved movies, so to be learning about all the inside features that goes into a film is going to be a very good experience. Those are the main reasons why i am taking media!
