Pre- Production Techniques for creative media industries ( part 1)


Finance 

  • The potential sources of finance ( such as advertising, sponsorship, subscription fees, cover price, sales, rental charges) 
  • The expenditure ( covering such elements as equipment, materials, transport costs, crew, personnel, facility,hire, clearances and legal costs) 

Timing

  • Timescale is an important factor for any media production and deadlines can often be very tight 
  • Think carefully about availability of your crew and equipment, the timing of the different stages of the production process.

Personnel

  • Sourcing the right personnel for a media product. 
  • Must make sure that production team is the right size for the job and that each member has the right balance of knowledge, skills and experience to undertake the specific role needed. 

Facilities 

  • Any creative media product will involve the use of production equipment and facilities to capture , record, edit and manipulate the raw material into the finish product 
  • Moving image, audio and photographic products will need equipment. 

Materials

  • All media products require raw material for the actual content and you can plan and gather and generate these raw materials in various ways. 
  • Undertaking a series of test shots or recording can help you further your development of ideas. 

Locations 

  • Is location suitable for your purpose 
  • be aware of any health and safety issues 
  • this will safe time and money 
  • Know that you must get permission wherever you are filming if there are a lot of people 
  • Maximise material used 
  • risk assessments if u are running up and down making sure u and others will not injure your self during the event. 

Copyright 

  • if you use some existing archive material, such as photographs or film footage, material from a sound or photographic library or sourced from the internet.

Codes of practice and regulations

  • Think is this going to be suitable to the audience that u are aiming it at to 
  • Is it offensive to others and religion 
  • companies undertake pre-production work is to make sure that what are planning to produce adheres relevant codes of practice, laws and regulations that govern and control their industry 

Public liability 

  • Public liability is another legal requirement for companies and organisations who are involved in a creative media product. 
  • Member of of public being involved- get insurance- protection from injury- also covers equipment
